L3Harris Achieves Historic First Flight Success with Perimeter Truss Reflector Technology

L3Harris Technologies has successfully deployed its perimeter truss reflector on the ViaSat-3 Flight 3 satellite, achieving a historic first flight for this innovative design. This reflector is set to enhance high-speed broadband connectivity across the Asia-Pacific region.

The deployment marks a significant milestone for L3Harris’ perimeter truss antenna technology. Following the satellite’s launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket on April 29, 2026, the reflector successfully achieved its first-flight objectives.

Wes Langston, Vice President and General Manager of Surveillance Systems at L3Harris, stated, “L3Harris delivers innovative antenna technology to Viasat to extend secure, reliable connectivity to customers across the Asia-Pacific region. This reflector is 30% more compact than the industry standard perimeter truss reflectors while maintaining exceptional surface precision, focusing signals with near-perfect accuracy to maximize data capacity and deliver superior broadband performance to users.”

L3Harris serves as a supplier of large deployable mesh reflector apertures and antenna systems covering UHF-Band through Ka-Band. The perimeter truss reflectors incorporate a reflective mesh surface designed to maximize antenna gain, thus improving performance for advanced communications services.

The manufacturing of perimeter truss antennas, including that of ViaSat-3 F3, takes place in Palm Bay, Florida. L3Harris has delivered over 130 large deployable reflectors, consistently pushing the frontiers of space antenna technology.
