Rheinmetall delivers weapon system for British RCH 155 wheeled howitzer
Rheinmetall has been awarded a significant contract to supply weapon systems for the British Army’s RCH 155 wheeled howitzers, a crucial project for the British Armed Forces. This supply contract, valued in the low three-digit million-euro range, was granted in the second quarter of 2026.
The RCH 155 howitzer is developed by ARTEC GmbH, a joint venture between Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland, and is jointly procured by Germany and the United Kingdom.
In May 2026, the UK confirmed an order for 72 units of the RCH 155. Both nations are currently engaged in qualifying the advanced 155 mm L/52 RC (remote-controlled) weapon system. Following successful evaluation, Rheinmetall will deliver 72 elevating masses and on-board tools, alongside various non-recurring services, including technical documentation and training materials support. Production of these weapon systems will take place at Rheinmetall’s newly established gun production facility in Telford, which is being launched in phases.
The RCH 155 integrates the reliable drive module of the GTK BOXER wheeled armored vehicle with an advanced, fully automated weapon system derived from the self-propelled Panzer howitzer 2000. This hybrid system offers exceptional automated artillery firepower, coupled with robust protection and superior wheeled mobility. Notably, it retains the capability to fire while in motion, positioning it among the top-tier artillery systems available today. The design features an unmanned, fully automated turret, enhancing operational safety and efficiency.
